Scientists have the moral duty to inform the general public of the urgency and complexity of the energy problem.

Science, 9 February 2007 (special issue on Sustainability and Energy), p. 737
We need to improve the affordability of the direct harnessing of sunlight for society’s energy needs.

Nature, February 8, 2007, p. 567
The IPCC report has served a useful purpose in removing the last ground from under the sceptics’ feet, leaving them looking marooned and ridiculous.

Nature Materials, March 2006, p. 161
Photovoltaics on its own has the potential to replace nuclear power on the required timescale even in the UK.

Nature, 2 February 2006, p. 509
The waste issue will need to be addressed before any ground is broken for a new nuclear power station. Britain abandoned plans to build an underground waste repository in 1997 and is in search of a new approach.

Nature, 2 February 2006, p. 509
Fuel recycling may look exciting on paper; in practice, it is part of the problem, not the solution.

Science, 14 April. 2006, p. 180
Chernobyl after 20 years: according to a U.N. report, an estimated 4000 people are expected to succumb to fallout-induced cancers. Some experts have challenged that figure, contending that the cancer toll could climb into the tens of thousands.

Nature, 20 March 2006, p. 984
Once touted as too cheap to meter, nuclear power has become too costly to build. So expensive that no private investor would ever touch such a project.

Science, 22 July 2005, p. 548
The U.S. Department of Energy is working to transform solar energy from a bit player into the world’s leading power source.

Solar energy, being diffuse all over the world, will reduce disparities among the nations. Most poor countries have abundant solar energy and development of related technologies can contribute to poverty alleviation.
